Character Education: The Foundation Of Social Change

"The essence of education is not superficially to mold great minds but also to create great characters."
Education plays an important role in our lives. It had delivered a great impact in each of us. It enabled us to read, to write, to count and comprehend every concepts/ideas taught in school. But this doesn't mean that education only functions to make students become intelligent or bright. It should also functions to mold students into generous, respectful, kind, understanding and loving individuals. Values and virtues should not be disregarded in our daily living because those things direct us to live life morally or ethically. If we are only fed with informations or ideas within the four corners of our classroom, we can never live in in accordance to Ethics. We can never attain social change and order in our country.
Character education is not merely an educational trend, it is also a basic dimension of good teaching, an abiding respect for the intellect and spirit of the person in accordance to moral values and virtues. It must be the primary objective of our educational institutions. Now it is a challenge for both the parents (as first teachers) at home and teacher at school to mold great characters. In this manner, the problem in our society like violence, graft and corruption and terrorism would be eradicated. Every transformation/change always starts within every person himself. That's why, character education that comprises values and virtues should emphasized at schools and home.

American Idol is the most popular and biggest talent show/singing competition in the United States and in the whole world. It started in the year 2001 that has produced its very first winner, Kelly Clarkson (Season 1). One Nation, Overseas

The Philippines has been known globally for its exports like agricultural products, and most of all it is renowned for human resources that has been consistent of sending skilled workers, domestic helpers, cooks, medical professionals and etc. They are what we call as "OFW's or mga bagong bayani," that have been scattered throughout the globe. Our overseas "kababayans" really help our economy. The money that was sent by them to their respective families acoount for up to 8.2% of the country's GNP, and thus stabilizing the peso and improve foreign currency reserves. Many countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Australia and others prefer Filipinos to work in their country. They reaaly believe in the capabilities and skills of Filipino workers. Despite of the recent global crisis in which many Filipinos also lose their jobs abroad, there are still countries who open jobs for them.
Now is the time to honor our Kababayans who sacrifice a lot just to work abroad. They've been away from their love ones for a couple of years. They are the hope of our sick economy through their remittances. The government should help the new heroes(OFW'S) in this generation. They deserve to be valued, honored and to be proud of.

The Shocking Story of Julu

Last Sunday night as I was watching Rated K aired at ABS-CBN 2, I was shocked that even very young and innocent men of age 10-15 years old are already training to become future members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). It was really a very bad news upon hearing that those innocent youth particularly in Julu, Mindanao spend most of their lives training to become future true-blooded terrorists. Those teenagers are supposed to study at school rather than practicing how to use guns and other weapons. What's sad about this issue is that they can no longer achieve their goals and aspirations in life because they are already devoted to terrorism. They would even sacrifice their lives for the sake of their organization.

"The youth is the hope of our motherland," as they say. Now how could these teenagers live to that statement if their lives are not totally changed? What would happen in the future of Julu and to our country as a whole if htis dilemma is still unresolved? I just hope that our leaders are awakened on what's really happening to our country and they should set actions immediately to eradicate this problem in order to uplift the quality of life of the people. Let's also work hand on hand in the drive for worldwide PEACE!

Today's Challenge For the Human Race!

Have you ever wondered what's happening to our environment nowadays? Have you observed the unusual changes in our weather? Have you ever asked yourself about the calamities that continue to strike each of us? Is this the revenge of Mother Nature to humanity?

Who could forget the tsunami that had almost erased Phuket, Thailand and other Southeast Asian territories in the map of the world? The phenomena had taken millions of lives and properties in just a glance. It's just a manifestation on how fierce nature's revenge is. It had created a mark on everyone especially those who had experienced. We had heared in the news that some species of animals are already endangered and if we'll just ignore this problem, they could be extinct. Many human beings died due to lung cancer that is caused by air pollution which is the result of many human activities like smoking, spraying of aerosols and even using airconditions. These are just some of the problems relatedto our environment that really concerns us. We dream to live a perfect world, but we are the one who's responsible upon all these environmental condition. The only solution to this problems is within the hands of the people.

Now is the time to work hand on hand to eradicate this dilemma. Let's start a new beginning. We should follow the "3 R's; Reuse, Reduce and Recycle". Let's preserve our Mother Earth not just for our own sake but also for the next generation so that our children's children could still see the beauty of our world. It's a challenge for each of us. Now is the TIME!
